What is a Dental Filling?
When a tooth gets decayed, the decay site will allow food to get lodged, this food attracts more bacteria and allows tooth to decay more.
To control this process, we need to fill the decay. We remove soft decayed part of the tooth using different drilling instruments and make a cavity.
This cavity, we fill it with different filling materials like Silver Amalgam, Miracle mix, Restorative composites and Glass Ionomer (GIC) Cements etc.
AESTHETICALLY speaking, tooth colored and non tooth colored.
Tooth colored are the Composites and Glass Ionomers
Non-Tooth colored are the Silver Amalgam and Miracle mix restorations
STRENGTH wise
High compressive strength material are Silver Amalgams and Miracle Mix restorations and
Low compressive strength material are Dental Composites and Glass Ionomer Cements.
DURABILITY wise Silver Amalgams stands tall among all. Silver Amalgams lasts for decades. Followed by Miracle Mix restorations, Composites and Glass Ionomer Cements.
